Ballet is a performance dance originating in the 15th century in Italy and refined in France. This genre of dance is precise and takes years to master. Ballet requires much practice. It requires focus on alignment, posture, flowing, precise movements, and acquisition of acrobatic skill. Advancement is based on correct placement, skill mastery, and student’s readiness, not age. All levels have a variety of ages. Students spend an average of three years at each level before mastering the skills needed to successfully advance. Ballet training incorporates the foundational techniques for many other dance forms.
