These classes are for dancers age 7 and up. Students become proficient through a systematic approach where each level is based upon the understanding and skill achieved in the level prior. Advancement is based on correct placement, skill mastery, and instructor recommendation, not primarily by age. Students spend an average of two years at each level before mastering the skills needed to successfully advance.
Through Ballet technique, dancers seek to achieve the articulation, combined execution, and artistic expression of the ballet vocabulary. From Ballet Level I through Level V/VI, dancers receive a complete education that not only strengthens their skills, but is also an opportunity to learn the precise technique of each movement, along with vocabulary and meanings.
Levels I, II/III, IV, V/VI
Tap is a technique that incorporates the use of sound (tap shoes), timing, and rhythm. This technique strengthens the dancer's coordination and rhythmic comprehension while expanding their tap vocabulary and step knowledge. Basic steps are taught and combined with varying degrees of difficulty depending on the level.
Levels II, III, IV/V
Modern dance, which developed in the 20th century as a reaction to traditional ballet, captures the experimental and iconoclastic spirit of the modern movement. While this style embraces natural movement and improvisation techniques, it also follows set sequences to communicate a theme and inspire audiences.
Levels II, III / IV, V
Jazz has become an incredibly influential style, whose unmistakable touch can be seen from the Broadway stage to the big screen. Rooted in African rhythms and techniques, Jazz has grown to include ballet and modern movement, and has become synonymous with American dance.
Levels I/II, II, III, IV, V
