Liza Barskaya was raised in Los Angeles, CA where she primarily trained with Jonette Swider. She spent summers training with Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Austin and Dance Theatre of Tennessee. She went on to spend two seasons with Ballet Austin as a Professional Division Trainee. Upon completing her traineeship she moved to New York City where she has worked with the American Swiss Ballet, Dances Patrelle and Homo Veritas Dance Theatre. Liza is a contributing member and collaborator for Creating Higher Ground, a non-profit organization celebrating artists of Northern Manhattan which hosted the Higher Ground Festival, where she collaborated on an adaptation of “The Prophet” for which she created original dance work.In addition to stage work she took part in a PBS Documentary and performance tour with John Tesh titled “Alive: Music and Dance” as well as being filmed dancing for Red Hot Organization’s “Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell” devoted to raising awareness for AIDS. She currently works with the Independent Opera Company in Los Angeles as dancer and choreographer and is very excited to be teaching at Ciara Dance in Woodland Hills.
